Leo is a small town in Allen County, Indiana. It is located about 15 miles west of the Ohio state border and 12 miles north of Fort Wayne, Indiana. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were approximately 3,767 people living in Leo in 2016.
Leo is located in an area of Indiana that was originally inhabited by Native American Indians of the Miami tribe. Eventually, individuals of European descent arrived and began taking control of the land. In the early 1830s, the Cedar Creek Township was established by a New York native. In the late 1830s, a community was formed in the township. The community contained stores and a post office and was known as Leo. In 1996, Leo became an incorporated municipality.
Modern-day Leo is a charming Midwestern community. The motto of Leo is “A Sense of Community,” and residents and visitors agree the motto accurately describes the town. Located in Leo are many recreational opportunities like parks, boat launches, shopping, and dining. The town is also home to churches, schools, a post office, and community facilities.
