Fort Wayne is a large city in northeastern Indiana. It is located 175 miles south of Detroit, Michigan and 160 miles east of Chicago, Illinois. Fort Wayne is named in honor of General Anthony Wayne who established a U.S. military fort, Fort Wayne, in 1794. The fort was constructed after the Miami Indians were defeated. In the early 1800s, the fort was lost and retaken by the U.S. military. In 1824, Fort Wayne was platted and made the county seat.
